Slinkachu Research
The 'little people project' started in 2006. The project involves painting and remodelling tiny train set characters. After making his miniature characters come to life, he places them, photographs them and then leaves them in the middle of the street. His aim is to encourage people to be aware of their surroundings and for people to connect with these little characters in his work. This is because he aims to reflect the loneliness of living in a big city, almost being lost, invisible and overwhelmed. He doesn't make his pictures depressing in anyway, he also engraves a sense of humour into his work.

Who Is Slinkachu? Slinkachu - The artist who is the god of small things. Slinkachu,34, was a normal guy who worked in advertising in his home place of Devon, before he took to the world photographing small characters. He captured the hearts of many people with these images which landed him shows in London and New York, he has also released a book. He has literally gone global. His photos now sell up to £6,500. He is pretty overwhelmed himself quoting to The Independent “I didn't expect people to empathise with the characters so much. We have an innate pull to look after small things – kids, dogs, hamsters... People project their own feelings on to them.” |
Fun Crazy Fact
Slinkachu once shot one of his pictures next to a cash machine, of course leaving
it after he got the right photograph. The little people lasted 3 months without being
tred on or tripped over, simply because nobody noticed them, invisable.

This is my favourite image because of how creative it is. Using a shoe lace to create a lake monster and a bottle top as a boat.
I also really love the was the lace is more in focus than the little people on the bottle top. The way the lace relfects on the puddle
and the way the buildings in the background are slightly faded, both of these elements make the photogaph effective.

This is my least favourite image slinkachu has produced because you cant really see the miniature people in the image, they are that small its hard to see them and the story looks pointless. He should of used the zoom technique to make them a little more visable to us. The idea all in all is creative.
Kurt Moses
Kurt Moses is another artist that photographs miniature people in a real sized world. Just like slinkachu he goes outdoors and pictures the figures, and works with whatever lighting or weather is present at the time. Moses and his wife started the project in 2010 to combine his interest in photography and the great outdoors. Moses uses places they've been to and past experiences for inspiration. He trys to photograph how he views life and the world around him.
Kurts project is called "Un Petit Monde" which means a small world in french.

"Ultimately, I strive to create a whimsical and enticing photograph that will capture the viewers’ imagination and allow them to dream up their own conclusions…or just smile." - Kurt Moses
My First Shoot
My plan for this shoot ended up going in the opposite direction. I wanted to put the tiny man with the berry and for him to look like he was trying to push it over. This didnt work and I ended up turning my figure into a murderer.
Best Shot
This is my best photo in the style of slinkachu because its the only photo that sort of has a story behind it. My little figure has berry juice on him, which looked like blood. I used this and put him hidden behind a bar meaning he's hiding from the police or even targetting his next victim.
The focus point is in the correct place and the lighting works well. The brick wall makes him stand out.
The focus point is in the correct place and the lighting works well. The brick wall makes him stand out.
Worst SHOt
This is my worst shot because the focus point is out of place and you can hardly see the figure, also meaning you cant see the story so there is no point in the picture.
I found shooting in the style of slinkachu harder than I thought it was going to be, most of my pictures were to far away so they didn't look like real life. For my second shoot I would like to find more props to work with to bring the story to life and make the photos exciting.
SECOND SHOOT
In my second slinkachu shoot, the story went from the girl and boy being to shy to talk to each other and then it went to a boy being jealous of a couple.
Best shot
This is my best shot because the focus points are all in the right places and the depth of field is just right. I also like the bag being in the back ground for height difference, it makes the figures look smaller and thats what `I was going for. Also the story is visible.
Worst SHOT
This is my worst shot because of how out of focus the figures are. The focus point is on the front of the lens instead of focused on them. The colours haven't stood out as much either.
Third SHOOT
My third slinkachu shoot was more of a practise. I had no real plan of what I wanted too do so I just put my tiny figure anywhere and tried to improvise. So in the 10 minutes I had, I tried out some different things to see what worked best. I tried putting the figure layed back first on the wood, with her legs hanging over the top; to create some sort of effect as though she was dangling from the wall. The other pictures were just a lady looking at the gardens, I tried making the bench look like a tree, so she was sitting in the tree with maybe a sandwich as her right arm is up.
Best shot
I like this shot because of where the focus point is. The focus point hits the figure and the bench, even some of the leaves. I also like the different colours of green in the background.
Worst SHOT
This is my worst shot because it basically just failed completely. I wanted to create the effect that my figure was sat on the edge of the bench, but the photo is not colour and have no real meaning. Also the focus point is not on the figure its on the leaf and that wasn't what I wanted. Also the wall is blurry.
In my next shoot I would like to try and create something like this, but instead of it being a refugee camp it be a exihibition with little figures looking up in excitiment. Maybe change the banana to a bigger looking stawberry. I want too shoot this shot inside the school to give it the inside warm feeling, like being in a museum.
Shoot 4
For this shoot I wanted to create a hiking scene on the grass with the flowers being point when you've walked to a new area as they are so much bigger and pretty. It shows a view for the hiker.
Shoot 5
As its summer there's no puddles for the water underneath the boat, I used the carpet as its blue so the carpet represents water. The story is a mother showing her young son a shark fin off a boat, as though they are on a tour od the sea.
Best Picture
I like this photo because of where the focus point is, you can clearly see the focus on the boat and on the people. But you can still see the shark in the distance. Its all in the correct direction so it actually looks like shes pointing at it showing her son. The floor is blue to resemble the sea.
Worst Photo
Even though the focus point is on the shark but its blurry all over. You loose the story also because I was trying to make sure you could visualise the fin you loose the meaning of the story because you cant see the mother pointing towards her son. The exposure is fine also but its just average.
Shoot 6
This shoot is to show the refugee crisis as its so big right now. The boats are made from paper and my goal is to show the danger of so many people on boats and the crossing they are. The bodies represent the death and the capsized boat shows the danger. The reason I chose to do it in a paddling pool and not fill it up completely is to show that these people cant escape, the walls are to high wherever they go.
Preparation
Best Shot
I really like this shot because the focus point is on the boat and the people where its supposed to be, yet you can still read the sign and see the people on the land. The lighting is perfect as everything is see able. I also like the contrast between the boat the refugees were arriving on and the red rescue boat, to show how many people were coming on them. I also like that the reflection of the sign in visible so you can see its really in water.
Worst Shot
This is my worst shot because it has no focus point nor is it in focus in the first place. You cant read the sign and the boat that's supposed to be in focus isn't even in the shot. Its not even worth keeping as it is irrelevant.
